Its a Rat Race

Gotta go here. Gotta go there. Do this. Do that. I appear and disappear Through our atmosphere. Now at my habitat Gotta go here. Gotta go there. All for my career. I don't have time to chit chat. I appear and disappear Oh. Dear Time to scat. Gotta go here. Gotta go there. It's no wonder why at the end Of the day I feel like a hellcat With an ugly snear. I appear and disappear. At times it seems like I am insincere As I run around and around like a rat. Gotta go here. Gotta go there. I appear and disappear.

ha!! very good theme to do for this form of poetry. It sounds like you are describing me a little bit. I am always running here and there, to work, home, the gym, the store. So I keep telling my friends, gotta run! Loved how you could even feel the fast pace in this poem. However, when we are with loved ones, we need to put all our attention on them and live in the moment. That is what I hope I do despite all my responsibilities!

I am glad that you liked it. I always am glad for the reminder to be here in the moment. Because when my children were growing up there was so much to do I ran around until life became no fun. I am changing that.

What a fast-paced villanelle you have penned, Bette. I felt like a rat running around in a maze, punching my way out as I read this. My heart was beating fast, and I felt like I was being chased, by myself. Then I read the title and I laughed.

Thank you Caren. I found when the children were young I was on the go constantly. It was work, school, school functions, Christmas concerts, baseball practice, games, soccer practice, games, church, church functions, plus all the museum trips, the aquarium, parks, camping not to mention housework, and outside chores, and still the list goes on. It was like a Rat Race. Lol. At times I miss it. Thank you for the visit.
