It Was You

I've thought about it.

Haven't you?

Looked back in retrospect
comprehending all I knew within my core
 decades of experience checked
observing love and hate and war
unsure of where life was leading me
opening and closing each and every door.

I wondered who was I
ready to be revealed from down deep inside
 sorry for mistakes and missteps
researching every truth and lie I tried
knowing it was only me that appeared complex
the me, I hoped to hide.

I felt it
but only long after time had passed
heart love, happiness, laughter, every tear I cried
shared with you, suppotive in every task
late realizing the truth denied
it was always through you I found the me in life.
