It Hails

It rains,

I carry an umbrella-

yet still I'm wet,

because it rains.

It snows,

I dress warmly-

yet I freeze,

frostbite hits me hard-

because it snows.

It hails,

I wear a helmet-

yet I'm bruised,

bleeding from the inside-

bruised beyond all doubt,

because it hails.
