My poem is a self-portrait that portrays one aspect of myself.

Born in New York of Italian descent- from childhood on- lasting still all these years, Deep in my soul live the sounds of lament- The drama of romance, fear, death, and tears. The power, the movements, fill up my soul Like thunder that roars to shake up the night; So vibrant and flowing, lost in the role, I listen to grasp each note with delight. Emotional voices strike at my heart, I'm filled with a depth I cannot explain- The beauty, the sadness in every part Bring stories to life that stir inner pain. Yes, opera is a big part of me; My favorites played again and again- Puccini, Bizet and those of Verdi; Of Tosca, Carmen, and best, La Boheme. With musical dramas of life and death- The singers stir feelings with every word. Strong voices mingle to deepen my breath; Emotions rise with each aria heard. Born in New York of Italian descent- My family loved and nurtured this art. Played records at home, with happy hours spent At Met- where opera lifted my heart.

This is so beautifully written with excellent word choices and a glimpse into your roots. I particularly like the opera imagery and specific mention of your ancestry and how you were introduced to the soul-moving music. For me, I would have liked you to zoom in a little more into a moment in time with your family - what were the smells and sights that first time a record played? Who was there? What did they say about it that you agreed or disagreed with? You have my interest!

The way you intertwine your personal connection with opera, from childhood memories to the power it holds over your soul, is truly captivating. A symphony of emotions painted with eloquence! - Blessings, Daniel
