Isla
Took a test out the blue
It was positive for you
I was drowning in happiness at the thought of us two
Nature dropped a bomb
I was gonna be a mom
If history was accurate, I was anything but calm
Endless nausea spells
Couldn’t stand any smells
This was way back when you were just a cluster of cells
Then the flutters began
All the wellness exams
You were a beautiful surprise on our ultrasound scans
My pant sizes grew
My belly grew too
We were fighting morning sickness but we both made it through
Every kick and every turn
Even the crazy heartburn
You were the greatest life lesson I was ever gonna learn
Fast forward to the date
I no longer had to wait
You were breaking down the door trying to make the great escape
I couldn’t believe my eyes
All the pain—I wanted to die
But then you made your big debut and I never felt so high
They brought you to me
I never felt so much glee
I couldn’t wait to hold you in my arms so gracefully
The love I’m expressing
There’s no second guessing
My sweet baby girl—you are my life’s greatest blessing.
