Notes About The Poem

Isaiah 5:20 "Woe to those who say that good is bad and bad is good, Those who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness, Those who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" NWT

Isaiah 5:20

We live in a world that is lost and confused
And no matter how hard we try
We struggle to make sense of things.
This verse helps us to understand why.

When it comes to "light" and to "darkness"
There shouldn't really be compromise.
However, there are dusky moments in life
Dimming the view for moral eyes.

As to what is "good" and is "bad",
Complexity comes in to play.
For what feels right or wrong to us
Could be opposite to the correct way.

Trust is tested a lot in life.
Even relationships can feel like lies!
The deepest of tests put "bitter" to "sweet"
And we can feel vulnerable, left without allies.

We were designed with a need to be guided
For we have proven for centuries now
That we tend to make things so complicated
And the truth gets lost somehow.

The standard is set for "good", "light" and "sweet"
And if we look up to the correct source
We will not find ourselves lost in confusion.
There will be clarity in our course.
