Into the Woods

Into the woods the three did wander
Graceful teenage girls carefree
I had great cause to ponder
Surely someone held the key
When they were never seen again
Suspecting things grimly gone awry
What evils lurks what evil men
Might dare beneath God’s watchful eye

Line, this reminded me of the day I thought someone was being murdered in the woods. I ran in for a flashlight, and I yelled, "Where is the flashlight? A woman is being murdered in the woods and I am going to save her." My husband listened and would not tell me. It was the scream of a bobcat, and they sound like a woman being murdered on TV. So I guess he saved my life again.

O Caren. It's a good thing your husband is looking out for you. I understand not turning a deaf ear of a murder in your backyard though. Glad it turned out to be a false alarm.

Line, this short poem gave me chills. Still have them. You have skillfully recreated a scenario that happens all too often. Bravo! (A fave for me.) Hugs, Carolyn

Thank you so much, Carolyn. My inspiration was the huge problem of missing and murdered aboriginal women. Very scary indeed.
