Into the Void
A deafening silence fills the empty house,
roaring like rushing waves of the ocean
lapping harshly against the lonely shore.
Drowning in solitude I bear each moment
while the clock slowly ticks away and eats
into the fragments of what remains of life.
Memories of long ago have all but faded,
buried in the deep recesses of my mind
like rusting steel that had seen its time.
Gone are friends I knew, some forever,
others moving into worlds of their own
where I could be a part no longer.
Talking to my own reflection on the wall,
far removed from the life I have known,
I am trapped in the pervading gloom.
Toasting what remains of my existence
around shadows that cannot talk back,
silently I beg for this torture to end.
Daring the eternal blackness to engulf me
within its welcoming bosom, damning it,
cursing it, I laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Sitting forlorn with just my remembrances
of lovers and dreams long dead and gone,
with a glass of beer to keep me company,
I, I surrender to the void.
