Independence In search of freedom, many braved the high seas, Needing to flee the chains of their home countries. Desiring a fresh start in a far-off land; Educating their children to understand. Plymouth, Jamestown, Hampton, and other such sites; Enduring hardships, attacks, and other fights. Now viewing self-rule, like Paine, as Common Sense; Declaring to England their independence. Early clashes at Lexington and Concord; Not shrinking from gunfights or edge of a sword. Claiming patriots’ victory at Yorktown; Earning a U.S. republic, not a crown.
