In the Night
Underneath a sunless sky
Blue grey colors in my mind
A heart alone to keep the time
Bundled snugly to rune and rhyme
In the darkness and the silence of the night
Not a sound or break or sign
Narcotic sleep so deep so kind
In the nothing moves the jive
Outside in the backyard pyre
In the darkness and the silence of the night
In this fitful wake less dream
Want to warn and shout and scream
Macabre figures dance in a scene
Ghostly twilight amongst the weeds
In the darkness and the silence of the night
Outside my bedroom window sill
Out in the nothing of darkness shrill
Ghastly figures roam at will
Horror grips and holds and kills
In the darkness and the silence of the night
If the moon will surely show
And stop the paralysis and let me moan
Shed some light on phantoms bowed
Glowing eyes and shrouds and stones
In the darkness and the silence of the night
Morning in our neighborhood
Kiss of dew and smell of wood
If they knew or surely could
Before the next near moon
In the darkness and the silence of the night
