In the Name of God
IN THE NAME OF GOD
Did I cross the line?
I wanted to know your name.
Laboring to describe
my feeble attempts in vain.
Trying to make known
in language and verse
one who was and is
Lord of the universe.
How can I speak eloquent
with this unclean tongue?
How can the words flow
in the presence of the One?
A voice reaches through
this wall I call heart.
Child, I’ve heard the names.
I’ve been here from the start.
I AM, that made the universe.
I AM, that made you, too.
You.ve always known my name.
You’ve always known it’s true.
You’ve known my name
when you were crying.
You’ve spoken it
as you were dying.
You’ve said it with your lips
at sunsets of red and blue.
It echoed from the mountains
and from the morning dew.
My name will remain
long after earth is gone.
It will always be
long after my work’s done.
My name’s not in books,
or written by flowing pen.
But written in the heart of man.
That’s where my name begins.
Where healing is spoken
and mercy is wrote.
Where eternity lives
and the veil was broke.
If it’s a name you need
to know me a little more.
Call me The Key,
I’ve opened the door.
