IN THE GLOW OF THE MOON

It was 4 A. M. when I happened to look out our window
and what I saw on the ground and in the sky
made me wonder for a moment…if I could trust my eyes.

At first glance it seemed to be the morning…but I knew I was up too soon
the light I was seeing wasn’t the sunrise…it was created by the moon.

It wasn’t only the full moon resting on the clouds over the mountains…
It was also what I saw on the ground below.
The snow that had blanketed the ground yesterday…
at 4 in the morning was aglow.

I stepped outside to only cold and silence.
The animals were either sleeping or trying not to freeze
because all this beauty came at a cost…it was only 4 degrees.

As I stood there bundled up…also trying not to freeze
I was mesmerized by the moon glow off the clouds, the mountains
and how it cast shadows of the trees.

The high winds that were predicted…either came and went
or, for the moment, decided to cease…
Standing there in the glow of the moon
It was as if the whole world was at peace.

I stood there captivated…onto that magical moment I wanted to hold.
and bathed in the warmth of nature’s beauty…I realized…I was no longer cold…

And I found myself making a wish…
standing there in the glow of the moon…
that the peace I was feeling this morning
would find its way to the whole world soon…
