In the Back of the Room

Here I am no one knows I sit in the quiet like I'm all alone Never raising my hand never being heard Daydreaming of a way to escape without a word The people around are unaware of my existence They go on with their class not knowing of my persistence My wanting to belong These feelings have become strong But I’m almost reminded that I cannot be them No matter how hard I try I can’t pretend Pretend to have a voice and that my words should be used to heal and mend So I’m keeping this refrain short and quiet I wish I could cause more of a riot I guess have to settle for now than soon I will remain the girl in the back of the room
