In My Eyes

The darkness coalesced in my eyes
Whispering the sweetest lies

Erecting a bloody throne
Made of broken bone

The color seeped from my cheeks
Leaving me weak for weeks

The pain I held drove me to despair
And I thought nobody would care

The voices in my own head
Told me to listen to them instead

And as I tested the blade of a knife
I sometimes imagined ending my life

A small cut here and I write my goodbye in blood
Feeling the tears in my eyes create a flood

Tears cascading down my cheeks I dropped the blade
As the moon made the darkness fade

When I peer into my own eyes I'm afraid of me
And the thoughts that seek to set me "free"

But I've learned without darkness there is no light
But it might burn within if I stand ready to fight

Pages and pages of misery tell my history
But what awaits tomorrow is still a mystery

And if it takes being lost in rhyme to find the time
To cleanse my soul and erase the grime

Then just know I'm figuring out who I am
As I confront the shadows and erase the sham

And as the moon disappears and the sun rises
I think I may still have a few surprises

As a bevy of morning colors splash across the sky
I move past mourning as I seek to finally fly

The light coalesced in my eyes
Watching as the darkness dies
