In Gratitude

Shed a tear for those deceased
In COVID’s agony and pain,
Shed one for their bereaved
Never to see loved ones again,
Then spare a thought for those
Who daily risked their lives
Doctors, nurses, ancillaries
All Parents lovers husbands wives
The para meds, the porters
All who make the service run
Remember them in prayer
For the service they have done.
Emotionally bruised and battered
By death’s daily dealing
Those whose lives are dedicated
To caring and to healing.
Spare a thought for those
Overworked and underpaid
Never to be forgotten for
The contribution they’ve made
I bet they really appreciated it when
We stood and clapped our thanks
They probably think of it every time
They have to queue at food banks.

( very recently Nurses have voted to go on strike after, in real terms, suffering pay cuts over the last few years)

I have a dear dear friend who is a nurse and she hasn't missed a day's work since Covid began. She is of the Muslim faith and in her lunch hour in December every year she decorates the children's wards with Christmas festivity, I think she is an angel that was sent to earth. I would love to send your beautiful poem to her please Terry, if you will allow me to.

Please do Wendy, with my best wishes to her. For the past 6 years I have had regular treatment for Macular Degeneration and without their care i would be very poor sighted by now. The nurses have been of many nationalities and faiths but all have been caring and dedicated people. I owe the all so much.

Well said, Terry! All of our clapping didn’t end up helping them too much…

Nurses are some that should have received increases instead of pay cuts!
