Notes About The Poem

In Flight

Gentle are this afternoon's random rains, that water the garden's blooming flowers. Still one hummingbird ignores the showers. Life travels through its delicate veins.  Suspended motionless feeds on planted nectar, harmless, unimposing, all thrust no vector. My tearing eyes lit glowingly, in awe I observe attentively          this miniature bird moving quietly. While silk wings flutter invisibly, his straw draws food continually.  A brushed mystical blue  with stroked green sure presents a marveled view of God's fairy creature. Flitting to and fro above land. Diminutive and grand this alluring, this flying miracle!

Hi Maurice, such wonderful imagery in your poem. It was especially meaningful to me since this past summer we had two humming birds come to a feeder near our window. Your words echoed my feelings as I watched these little miracles. Congratulations on your great win! A 7 for you! Sandra

Maurice, so glad to see you entered this delightfully charming poem in my contest. Just this last spring, I saw a hummingbird near my house and I was so entranced by it, so I could easily relate to the feelings you expressed in your poem for this "diminutive and grand" bird! BIG congrats

Hummingbirds, one of the most beautiful birds of God's creations. You have written this to mystify us readers Maurice, and it worked beautifully.

I love that flying miracle with its fluttering wings as much as I love gentle rain showers.Sometimes these simple beautiful miracles are taken forgranted. We are pampered by our father in heaven ,yet many times fail to see the enchantment of life.Beautiful poetry.Makes me wanna paint your poem in sweet pastels on shades of grey.
