Notes About The Poem

I would never dream of being left alone in a haunted manor. "Redrum" was the name of a movie I watched years ago. Spelled backwards it's "murder"

In Cold Sweat

Come in, said the butler...his eyes red and veined
As I stood at the door step...while it heavily rained
Frightened I was...he had blood on his palm
It gave me the goose bumps...I tried to keep calm

Shoved by the wind...I was thrown through the door
I landed on blood marks...stained on the floor
Can I take your coat, in his deep voice...he said
Then, thoughts of redrum...ran through my head

I was Left all alone ...when the floors started squeaking
When through a hole in the wall...I saw somebody peeking
My mind playing games, not at all...I was scared
Especially, when I looked again...and the hole was repaired

I shouted out loud "who's there...who it be"
Is it you Mr. Butler...is it you that I see?
Suddenly, slowly the door opened wide
So I ran like a cheetah...to get back outside

The door had slammed shut...and I started to scream
In cold sweat, in my bed...I woke up from my dream

"blood mark stains on the floor" had me on the edge of my seat. I wondered how in the world you would get out of there. Glad that you did. Good luck in the contest. You have soup mail.

Wow! What a vivid nightmare, Charlie. This is an awesome entry for Tania's contest and I think it will do very well. "Redrum" was also in Stephen King's book "The Shining." The butler in your story reminded me of Lurch, but bloody. (deep voice, scary appearance, etc.) Best wishes in the contest!

What an excellent story, frightening and tormenting, glad it was a dream - they can be so real sometimes can't they? Very well penned Charles, good luck in contest! Poetry wishes, Jennifer.
