Impressive Owl Eyes

Owl is insistent, persistent, making her plea.
Sleepy dog is pleading, can you get her off me?
Owl is string bullet through me. Go away sir.
Dog is giving me a helpless look; the sweet minded cur.

Tell her yourself, I implore the dog. Pretend she’s a squirrel.
But he is tucked tidily under the leaf blanket. He does not want to unfurl.
The owl gives me the two eye warning. Her eyes are shouting to leave.
The more she insists the more I want to help my hound, sweet fellow Steve.

So I stay, much to the chagrin of the tenacious big-eyed owl.
She gives me a hoot, hoping she can scare me back to my gal.
Come on, I tell Steve. It’s got to be now or never.
I don’t have better words. I am not terribly clever.

Steve gives a deep sigh and goes back to his sleep.
He can snooze through a rain storm or women who weep.
The owl glares at me with the hatred of a thousand men.
I roll my eyes at her, and go back inside again.
