Image In The Mirror
I seemed to see him from afar
and watched as he grew nearer.
I read the signs deep in his eyes
this image in the mirror.
I saw the tracks of tears he cried
etched deep into his face.
I read the lines of troubled times
and things he can't erase.
I saw the weakness he revealed
his lip began to tremble.
I told myself about his strength
it could not fill a thimble.
It's then I felt I closed my eyes
and I could finally see.
All the things that he endured
I searched his memory.
I saw the dreams he used to dream,
he couldn't pay the cost.
Looking back so long ago
at innocence that's lost.
I felt the scars cut in his back
from times he was betrayed.
I sensed the battles he once fought
he didn't run, he stayed.
I opened up my eyes once more
some things are meant to be.
I found I'm stronger than I thought
the day that I found me.
