I'M Here To Stay
The dazzling splash of color,
as the sun’s rays start to go.
The sound of children’s laughter,
as it drifts through my window.
The sparkling of a log fire,
halos circling the full moon.
A billion stars a twinkling,
katydids humming their tune.
The croaking of some bullfrogs.
the singing of a night bird.
All the sounds of happiness,
without uttering a word.
I was made in Missouri,
a backwoods Missouri man.
Got a strong Missouri gal,
wearing my gold wedding band
I’ve traveled around the world,
found some places I called home.
But I’m back in Missouri,
and never more shall I roam.
