I don't think people outside our little sphere are familiar with the word "Mere", Harry. A mire, Carol, is a piece of swampy land--A mere is a stretch of shallow water that is broad in appearance...they are abundant in counties like Cheshire for instance. All the very best, Harry. :) john

P.S. Or, maybe you meant "moor". ???

I really like this one, Harry, but if you don't mind my recommendation: I think you mean "mire" instead of "mere". ;)

Oh dear Carole, always pleased to except advice, but if you are of this planet, i'm sure with some research you'll find 'mere' is the correct word for what i had in mind...Harry

I think I'll stay inside by the fire and wait for her to come in from the cold so I can warm her.

Wonderful Haiku Harry, It's been snowing here for the past three days. Finally stopped this aft. Really cold out and a biting wind. February is usually the coldest month but March is right around the corner. Things will start to get better then. I hope. Then again, this is Alberta and our weather is very changeable. God Bless and a 7 from me. JB

I've been to the Yorkshire moors in summer, Harry, though I did not come across Ilkley Tarn. I'll have to look it up and see if it fits the picture which I'm forming in my mind. #7 // paul

Does mere hold a local meaning? I love the imagery. Jan's suggestion that you are talking of the moors sounds like just the place I imagine.

Harry, the last few nights it has been cold in Florida and we're felt that "biting cold" by the sea. I can see the comparison to life as we have to endure all types of weather along our journeys. Excellent haiku! Hugs, Carolyn

A 7 for your vivid description in so few syllables, Harry. I've never been good at haiku and appreciate those who are. Janice
