If Wishes Were Horses

If wishes were horses, This beggar would ride Into the sunset With you by my side. I have nothing to offer Except all my love. To me, you're an angel Sent down from above. If you tell me you love me And we ride off together, I pray that our journey Continues forever. But if you reject me And tell me goodbye, Then darkness descends... And I'll lay down and die.

Rich, the title made this a must read as my Father often replied to my requests to do stupid things..."If wishes were horses, beggars would ride." Haven't seen that expression used in many a year. Enjoyed the poem.

Thanks, John. Wrote this for a poetry contest on another site where the opening was supposed to begin with that expression. Funny thing, none of the winners used it anywhere in their poems. Que sera, sera.
