If Wishes Were Horses

If wishes were horses, 
This beggar would ride
Into the sunset
With you by my side.
I have nothing to offer
Except all my love.
To me, you're an angel
Sent down from above.
If you tell me you love me
And we ride off together,
I pray that our journey
Continues forever.
But if you reject me
And tell me goodbye,
Then darkness descends...
And I'll lay down and die.

Haven't seen that expression used in many a year. Enjoyed the poem. Rich Reitz June 16, 2017 at 4:11 PM Thanks, John. Wrote this for a poetry contest on another site where the opening was supposed to begin with that expression. Funny thing, none of the winners used it anywhere in their poems. Que sera, sera.
