If We Understood
(based on a prayer by St. John Vianney)
If we understood
The amazing good
Beyond what eye might see,
We would want no more
But always adore
The Sacred Mystery.
No treasures we sought
Can transend the thought
Of Love to earth come down.
And no worldly scheme
Or glorious dream
Considered more profound.
So shake off the dust,
Do all that you must
To fly to heav’n above.
And leave all behind,
Seek out the Divine
And love as Love has loved.
