If We Had Met
Friend, you may not know,
I wish I had met you years ago,
Back when we were young and free,
I would have loved you and you me.
When I see you today,
I can easily say,
I love you now my friend,
And I would have loved you back then.
But I’m glad we didn’t meet,
Because of the children at my feet,
If we had met back then I fear,
These children would not be here.
Fate has a fickle finger,
That lets what ifs linger,
Yet sometimes I regret,
That back in the day we never met.
