If There Were No Poetry

If there were no poetry
Here’s what I think –
The world would flow over
With rivers of…that stuff you put
     in pens and printers.

If poetry somehow
Did cease to exist
The thoughts of all rhymers
Would surely be…just floating around
in the air with no place to go.

If poems weren’t written
I haven’t a clue
About how I’d express
What I’m feeling…does anyone?

Congrats on your podium win, Ilene--you are right-- no way to express human emotions--at least in poetic ways.

I looked this one over and over to try and find the hidden rhyme scheme. I’ll look again

Ink, mist, do you? Brilliant! I also wondered about the non-originality of the content. The poem is original, indeed!

Hey Hannah! Thanks for reading. I was playing around with this but it seems as if no one got the joke. Read it and substitute the expected rhyming word after the 3 dots in each verse (change “does” to “do” in the last verse) and hopefully, you’ll see where I was going...

This is sweet food for thought, Ilene:) If there were no poetry, then I am sure that you would be one of the first to invent it, my friend...it runs in your veins! Regards // paul

It would certainly be a drab boring world without your poetry. Nicely done Ilene. Best wishes in the contest

Poets often refer to their muse, but I sense a universe filled with poets all searching for a channel to express their words and, in you, they have found the ideal! Aloha! Rico

I would deem to bleak a possibility as the absence of a favorite food or wine. Still, human ingenuity would come up with something to express itself. / M

It would be a dark world for sure Ilene, but maybe we'd find a way through painting. Tom
