If I Were Not Born
IF I WERE NOT BORN
This world is very tough to live in
People left this place in pain, yet others come in
By no choice of theirs, they enter here innocent and unprepared
To face the lot of situations yet to be repaired
Who are you to question or refuse this entry?
If I knew, I would have given it a try.
For so did I come to meet this worrisome situations
Unpredictable, crude, unfair-world filled with discriminations.
If I were not to be born,
I would have been safe in the realm of the unknown.
The violence, corruption, greed, hatred, murder, robbery, back-biting, disaster …
For these and more, death is no more a sorrow to the dead brother or sister
For the dead's pain is washed away by their absence
And it’s only we the living who have sorrows of their absence.
I would have been glad, if I were not born,
Troubles come and remain awaiting others to be born
Fleeting on earth like the worm on sand in a sunny day
I consume and borrow before I get my pay
Struggling has not helped much, prayer only enhances hope
I, most at times, feel I should opt for the loop-rope!
I crack the shell with my bare teeth for someone else to chew the sweet nut
Sequence of troubling scenes and acts that rumble my gut
Tears are the dews in the favored morning I witness
The sweat of the day and the empty dinner table are epitome of nothingness!
If I were not born to meet this unfair stage
I wouldn’t have had this worry and pain as I print on this page.
