Notes About The Poem

On my way to visit my siblings in Georgia and Florida. I haven't seen some of them in years. But, I am very nervous... I hate flying (lol)

If I Wake Up

If I wake up...
eating peaches
And I'm still walking...
in my brown shoes
Then I'll be visiting my sister...
in Atlanta
And I'll be singing...
some Georgia blues

If I wake up...
eating avocado
And pass an orange orchard...
along the way
Then I'll be visiting...
my other siblings
About an hour...
from Tampa bay

But if my eyes...
don't see no sunrise
And my soul...
is flying high
Then I'll wake up...
eating angel cake
And see the sunset...
when I die So

So I made it...
to Atlanta
Visited a town...
known as Helen
And I woke up...
eating peach cobbler
With a side...
of watermelon

Then I made it...
to hot weather
Visited a town...
known as Spring Hill
And I woke up...
eating alligator
But it left me...
feeling ill

So my eyes...
had seen the sunset
From Atlanta...
to Tampa Bay
And I woke up...
visiting my siblings
And watched the sunrise...
along the way

I'm glad, it seems that things went well as you watched sunrise along your way and woke up visiting your siblings. Nowadays big families have scattered to the four corners of the earth. Nice one Charles. Blessings/hugs Jennifer.

Brilliant lyrics. Loved the fruit / place associations, particularly as this Brit didn't know, for example, that Georgia was famous for its peaches. I thought the last verse was great. Cheers - Gary

Poetry is great therapy sometimes! You should have come for a visit. I now know that we share Georgia (where my parents were raised), Atlanta was my home for my kindergarten year and I live in Florida (east coast - seems your peps are west coast.) WELL ... now I need to know who picked you up after you landed safely? I flown many times on our continent and 4 round trips to Europe - I think safely crossing the Atlantic 8 times is enough! I enjoyed our conversation! Chatty me ... CayCay
