If I Had Three Wishes

Can fairy tales be part of life,
Or does it only seem
That a Cinderella slipper
Can be part of every dream?
I won't pretend to know it all,
I'm really not that smart.
But, some things will not be denied --
They live inside my heart.

If I had three wishes, I'd use only one.
I'd wish all your love could be mine.
The two that were left, I'd give someone else --
To hold them would be too unkind.
To know you were mine for the rest of my life
Would, all my hopes, far exceed.
If I had three wishes, I'd use only one.
The other two I wouldn't need.

All the things I'll ever want --
The dreams I've always hidden --
Could be granted by a single wish
That, till now, has been forbidden.
Two idle wishes would remain
For someone else to own.
A single wish would give me more
Than anyone has ever known.

Great lyric! You have such a good heart, and I don't think it'd be so easy for other people to just give those wishes away. Priorities first... small stuff second. I like the way you roll, my friend!

I'm glad to see you are discovering some of my older work. Most of my early work was aimed at the Saturday night, beer drinking, Knights of Columbus Dance crowd.... You can probably recognize the ones meant as lyrics from those written as prose or poetry.... Jake

The praise from another poet is reward enough for this old wordsmith... Thank you... Jake
