If I Can Be So Bold

Thinking of Thanksgiving Day And its required feast Makes me think it’s time to say Which things I like the least. For giving thanks for what we’ve got Is kind of getting old, Since there is much we hate a lot, If I can be so bold. Like a certain politician Calling his opponents “vermin,” Reminiscent of the disposition Of a certain German. Or protests lately in the news With hostages forgotten And blame set only on the Jews, In speeches misbegotten. Or keeping guns but banning books And spreading lies much faster Than it can take to stop the crooks From causing more disaster. Or watching as our planet aches, Despite each expert’s warning, Repeating all those past mistakes, Preparing us for mourning. I could go on but I will not, Yet gathered ‘round the table, I’ll ban these thoughts and find a spot For thanks, if I am able.

Remember the two no-nos for any Thanksgiving feast: No talking politics and No political talk! ~ Why can't I count?

I skip the food orgy altogether. Besides, I don't like turkey much, and with food prices so outrageous...well, you get the point. / Maurice

Lovely poem, Ilene, the feeling of all the evil around needs to stop. I don't think we are forced to have thanksgiving. All it is, is a recognition of the holiday commemorates a harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621 and other blessings of the past. So, if an immigrant they would not have knowledge of it. I don't ever remember my parents or family members celebrating Thanksgiving. I do now, but mostly a gathering of my beloved ones. Blessings with a nice Thanksgiving my friend.

I suppose if we look at the bright side, we should be thankful it's not worse. Hard hitter, here, Ilene.
