If

If I could hold only you know Still as the night when you cried alone Solitary as the day you sat on that stone And still be your king without a throne If I could only recover love unknown If I could hold only you now If I could see only you now Knocking on my door once again Singing with me through sunshine and rain Kneeling with me amidst the sugarcane If memory did not make it more vain If I could see only you now All I believe have turned to dust Cocoon and butterflies change and change Time moves forward on life's backward range Sorrow is a heart broken and strange How love our world can so disarrange All I believe have turned to dust We long in wind and rain have learned nothing still Not what we know, but what we believe we are And nothing like is told by seers or star Expectations make the truth strange as far While we pine like a surf to cross the bar We long in wind and rain have learned nothing still If I could hold you now Once again beside the lime tree still And undo the errors of our will Keep the world with jasmines fill If I could you again over the hill If I could hold you now
