I Wonder as I Wander

I wonder as I wander through the paths of poetry,

And traveled off the interstate, to see what I may see

I felt the music, gracefully engaging with each sound

Of birds, of breeze through branch and twig

                                                        That whispered all around

The footfall of my being, impressed upon the dust

Of little lanes in ghost towns

                                                        Now left to nature's trust

I wonder as I wander, my breath upon the breeze

Shield my eyes from dust storms

                                               What strange metaphors are these?

For I, a child of nature, I'm old and yet I'm young

Breathe out with others of my creed

                                                      New songs, forever sung

BJ what a treasury written from the pilgrim poet wandering through this exquisite land of words and verses, BJ! I truly believe, like you, even as we add more candles to our cake, our spirits never age but gather wisdom from experience!! I am enchanted by your poem with its gentle essence like a Christmas candle and I love the reference to the beautiful Christmas carol, I Wonder as I Wander! Merry Christmas blessings to you!

Merry Christmas to you as well Sam; and on the cusp of 2026 I wish you many blessings in the new year awaiting! May the blank pages that stand shining before you be filled with your new poems and songs and may the muses smile on your pen :) Your visit and the words of your comment to me are like unwrapping Christmas gifts that I was unable to unwrap in the business of the Holiday crunch, and now sipping my tea, I bask in the glow of this site, your visit means so much to me. Your presence here and the words you have written to me feel like I am unwrapping joy, truly, in my heart; like no material gift could ever accomplish :) Thank you! Blessings to you as well dear sis!

I think older souls feel nature as a spiritual creation, a manifestation of God's love , that nature feels like being in a sanctuary, and to see it mistreated breaks our hearts. This is a beautiful poem; each line & rhyme pulls one further in. I invite you to read, "Extinction by Litter" as I suspect you feel as I do about people trashing our earth & I'm curious to know if it is true. I have enjoyed my time with some of your poems today. I'm going to do my best to remember to visit again.

Yes, CayCay, surely a manifestation of God's love. A Sanctuary? Yes; more so than any ornate building a person could build. It is horrifying to witness the wanton mistreatment of this very planet from whence our own flesh has sprung. I will come and read your poem soon, thank you for the invitation, and yes, as I am sure I've conveyed my disgust with the dishonor and harm continuously perpetrated on this planet. Even if there is found another habitable garden of wonder on another sphere, there would be the tendency to trash it too, so God forbid we find one till we clean up the mess we created here. OopS! Your words struck a chord in me, excuse me as I try to climb down off this here soapbox I've found myself on without breaking my hip bone! Now I'll get back to thanking you for your visits to my poetry and friendship :) May you be blessed in the new year ahead with all that is beautiful and lovely CayCay! Thank you! <3

This reminds me a lot of Arlo Guthrie's 'This is Yor Land:' "As I was walking, down that ribbon of highway..." Keep on trucking Bj.
