I Will Never Have a Grandchild

I will never have a grandchild Mrs. Lee lamented. How old are your boys? I asked. Forty-six and forty-eight. You don’t know that, I said. There is hope. They live at home with us, she told me. I make their meals, I do their laundry. I clean their rooms. I am shocked. She has been a special ed teacher for forty years. Teaching other people’s children basic life skills. Do they have jobs? I ask. No. They play video games all night. or they meet their friends and play music. I am speechless.

This actually is true way too often these days. WAY TOO OFTEN, I say. Mrs. Lee, Kick the bums out already. Give 'em an assignment: Grandchildren or Bust! You've touched on a sore spot with me, I guess. Thanks, Caren

It is crazy to me. Her JOB for 40 years was to teach other people's children LIFE SKILLS and she was a fantastic teacher!

I suspect she is right. Sounds like her "boys" are content with their lives and have no reason to change. If they were my sons, I'd take a totally different view. I'd probably tell them to get out and make a life for themselves!

I feel sad that they never will seem to develop self confidence, being enabled by this.
