I Will Never Forget
I will never forget,
The way he used to cope,
How when he passed so suddenly,
I felt bereft of hope.
I will never forget,
How many came to say,
They wanted to pay their respects,
On that important day.
I will never forget,
How he never lost his rag,
How even when he did great things,
He’d never ever brag.
I will never forget,
I was on a Tv quiz with him,
I’d wanted to for ages,
But he said “yes” on a whim.
I will never forget,
Before it screened he passed,
Agreeing they could show it,
Captured every thought amassed.
I will never forget,
I didn’t see him every week,
But if I needed some advice,
I’d call him and we’d speak.
I will never forget,
When I was only ten,
He took me down to London,
And we never went again.
I will never forget,
He dragged my sister from a lake,
She’d only lost her footing,
But no risks he’d ever take.
I will never forget,
He used to do things for his church,
And if they ever struggled,
He’d never leave them in the lurch.
I will never forget,
Though he’s been gone many years,
Thinking of how much I miss him,
Can still generate some tears.
But I will never forget,
The lovely times we had,
My hero, mentor, comforter,
I won’t forget my dad!
