I Went To Heaven's Door
I went to heaven’s door and knocked
and waited impatiently for reply but the door was blocked;
Peter came to open it but with the door set only slightly ajar
he asked who I was and why I traveled so far.
I reminded him of my name
and then told my story, tearing as I explained.
My only love came here, a little more than a year ago
and hard as I try, my life forward just can’t go.
The door opened wide and bright
in the distance I saw a blinding light
A hand touched my shoulder but still I did not see
who it was that was touching me.
A majestic voice spoke in my ear
and said my lonely life should be neither fear nor tears.
She loves you still and watches over you
look at the time, it remains for the jobs you need do.
I felt a brush of warmth around my shoulder
and in the warming light I suddenly felt much bolder
as upon my cheek there was a loving kiss
and once again, I felt the love I missed it still exists.
I turned away reluctantly, knowing I must live again
and I must wait to return to heaven in the end.
Goodbye, I said for now I’ll live well, better than before
Not Goodbye the voice replied, we’re with you evermore.
