I Wandered Lonely As a Star

"I wandered lonely as a cloud"
     -  William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a star
Out there in the evening sky,
Seems so close, yet was so far
To another who was like I;
How can it be there was no trace
Given the vastness of outer space?

After looking high and low
And saddened by night's end,
I caught a glimpse, a silver glow
A sign did the heavens send;
And me, thinking there was no hope
And me, without a telescope.

No closer could I be to you
In a universe so outstretched,
In the depth of midnight blue
The idea of us was too far-fetched;
Still I wander about this place so vast
A little less lonely, unlike in the past.

Just knowing you are out there
Gives a poet some peace of mind,
To stop looking for one so rare
That something too hard to find;
Twinkling in a galaxy of black,
We just say hello, forth and back.

You capture the theme of loneliness very well with your poem Kelly. Clever to use a star as your subject because in the vastness of space they are very far apart. I like it. Congrats on your placement and thank you for joining the contest

Wow... Kelly... I keep reading it, it feels like this is actually saying more than I can take away from it in just a couple reads. The last stanza especially. Maybe because my mind is tired, or because it has dimmed a bit lol. I truly enjoy it none-the-less.

Thank you FJ... I think this could be interpreted in different ways, depending upon who is reading... When writing this, I was thinking about long distance relationships and how they sometimes can feel more like friendships, instead, because the two people are so far apart.
