I Wandered Lonely As a Pigeon

" I wandered lonely as a cloud " ~William Wordsworth ~ I wandered lonely as a pigeon, flying Over towns, farms, lakes and trees. With my wings outstretched, there's no denying That I'm surfing on the breeze. In this vast sky there's not a cloud to be seen. Above me, ocean blue, beneath a luscious green. I swoop down fast for I have noted A generous scattering of seeds From the hands of bird lovers devoted, This will more than satisfy my needs! I feast 'til I am full and round And rest a while on the ground. The early mist, the horizons haze Puddles leave evidence of last night's rain. Pastures sheep and cows do graze Contented. Nearly time to fly again. But first I take a drop or two Revitalising morning dew. After a splash my wings are spread. Where to next? I ponder. What more to admire overhead! The endless sky I wander. The clasped rings remind me to return home Until I next explore lands free and alone.

Gone thru your poem. Also I remember both the poems I wander lonely as a cloud .. The Daffodils. Yet to mention English is my Second language. I like the theme and will try. Have a good day.

just read 'wordsworth's . wow, I knew of this poem but did not really recall it. He was sure a fantastic poet. Much more appealing to me than the modern and often puzzling free verse popular in some circles.

wow, Natasha. this is an excellent example you provided for us. I was wondering if it could be more than one stanza. I will check out the other poem you mentioned that inspired this.

Hi Andrea yes, if you are going to write yours like Wordsworth's then 4 would be ideal as he did. But it's up to you. I'm not going to be strict on how many stanzas are written. :-D

Thank you Sara. A pigeon landed here a few weeks ago and stayed for about six days and it was on its own. Since then this idea has been playing in my mind. So finally I did it! Lol.. thank you for your encouraging feedback :-D
