***i Tried

I tried to avoid you
I didn't want to let you in
I thought it would be best
If I weren't your friend

I tried to hide my feelings
They felt so strange and new
But, alas, I couldn't help
But fall in love with you

I tried not to believe
What everyone would say
I didn't listen to their words
I thought, "Who needs them anyway?"

I tried to ignore
The fact that you weren't there
Yet, in time I came to accept
That no longer did you care

I tried to get angry
But I just couldn't seem to get mad
I trusted you with all my heart
I gave you all I had

I tried to love you more
Hoping you would see the light
And though you never changed your ways
I always thought you might

I tried not to see the signs
Shove so plainly in my face
It was obvious you had moved on
And she now took my place

I tried to look past your lies
But it was to myself I had lied
I can't say that I'm okay
But at least I can say I tried
