I Thought We Had Forever

I thought we had forever,
But then again, I was wrong.
I thought we had a lifetime,
And in an instant, it was gone.
I begged you not to leave me again,
But you just smiled and said.
I’ll always be here for you is all you said.
We traveled so many paths so many times before.
And now once again I’m here all alone,
As I tearfully watched you passed through that door.
I miss your laughter and your smile and yes, I promise not to cry,
But in these lonely hours I look out at the stars and ask Why.
I grieve for a dear soul who has taught so much to me,
I grieve for the loss but know you are at peace now and for eternity.
