I Squeezed Hands Under Veil of the Darkness By Anna Akhmatova
I squeezed hands under veil of the darkness...
"You are pale today, tell me, why?"
Because I gave him drink with tart sadness
to be drunk to regret and to cry.
Can't forget, he walked out and he staggered
And the torture distorted his mouth,
I ran down stair to him and I pattered
passing by rail to gates with my oath.
Caught my breath, I cried out I was kidding
I will die if you leave, there was glint
He smiled eerily and quiet and pretty
And he said: "Do not stand on the wind."
P.S. This is my translation of poem by Anna Akhmatova
