I Spent My Time

I Spent My time
By Franklin Price

I spent my time within the force
As did many then of course
Could have been to college free
But college life was not for me

I could say that duty called
To go where they would shave me bald
But that would be a little lie
Of why I went where I might die

To earn my way's what I was taught
Free was not something I had bought
The Force would teach if I would learn
The pay was little no cash to burn

But I was earning so I did well
Through basic tech my tale to tell
Followed orders marched to school
Left with honors was no fool

Then to a base that had the bomb
Spent a year in Vietnam
During that time I lived through Tet
I saw a lot but won the bet

Came back home without a scratch
No damages no wounds to patch
Touched down to my very soul
But unlike others came home whole

That time I spent without regret
Gave to my country it gives back yet
The things I learned have seen me through
For all my life and all I do
