I Sit Alone
The joy of life that once was mine
Has scurried off upon its way
To seek some wayward place to shine
On someone else’s sunless day.
So, once again I sit alone.
My ragged soul not fit to speak
The sorry sadness which I’ve known
For far too long; it is too weak.
I cry for love which from me flies
To other spheres beyond my sight.
As unheard echoes of my cries
Fall silently into the night.
