I See The Light In You

I see the light in you, a flame so clear, Not loud or fierce, but ever near— A hush within the storm of men, That calls me back to truth again. Empathy and kindness, how they shine, Like silver threads through leaf and vine, They do not ask for name or face, But offer comfort, give us grace. The sky is endless, deep and wide, A mirror for your soul inside, I do not see just flesh and bone, But stars that burn when you're alone. It is your aura that I see, Like dawnlight brushed across the sea, Not made of words, not built of deeds, But grown like moss among oak trees. Mountain streams and oceans are Not more enduring than you are— They tumble, swell, then disappear, Yet your quiet strength stays ever near. Forward march the souls in flight, Who leave behind the cloak of night, And if you see them, let them be— Their path is carved in mystery. Be kind to those who are as you, But have no voice, no name, no view— They ache the same, they hide their tears, And carry unlived, silent years. Scarlet letters I have worn Longer than he has drawn the morn, Not stitched by sin, but by regret, A pain that time will not forget. But I have wandered far from shame, And do not seek to cleanse my name— I only ask to see what's true, And so I see the light in you. I trust you for a reason mild: Because I think and feel like a child— Not naïve, but bravely pure, And in that faith I feel secure. No miracles do I expect, No sudden grace, no skies perfect— Only your hand, and steady pace, To walk beside me into space. Where mountains rise and rivers part, I’ll follow with an open heart. And though the world may curse or jeer, I’ll hold you close, and draw you near. For empathy and kindness shine When all the stars forget to line— They light the dark, they guide us through, And that is why I see the light in you.
