I Searched In Vain

I had and lost a love so sweet, so fair
It came about by chance so quick and rare
There was no time to think of wrong or right
Love came and stayed to help us through the night

We met and talked while time had stopped it seemed
As time stood still I found what I had dreamed
I asked her name, she laughed and said, "Be still.
If this should last beyond tonight, I will."

The night of love flew by on wings of fears
The thought to lose this love at light brought tears
But through it all the joy of hope pressed on -
The sun came up, a kiss and she was gone

I searched and watched to see her face again
But deep inside I knew I searched in vain
And now I'm old I lived as best one does
I sit and think and wonder who she was
