I Saw You Praying

I saw you praying fervently.
You were immersed in thought,
Your hands were clasped tightly,
Your requests seemed to find God.

The view moved me profoundly,
I felt tears on my face.
Why did I react so sadly
When you seemed full of God’s grace?

I looked at you with jealousy,
I envied you the closeness.
My paths to Him were not so easy,
I couldn’t sense His kindness.

When I was observing you,
I desired to feel the same:
Peace in my heart and the truth,
But I knew my faith grew pale.

I froze... I was at complete loss.
I knelt down to pray with you
And bent humbly before the cross.
It was everything I could do...
