I Saw

Quietly within a shadow
Not recalling when darkness came
the night swallowed me somehow
the wind whispered my name

alone, below the starless sky
I raised my eyes to see
and there in total blackness saw
the soul inside of me

folded as a gilded book
my life as it has been
daring me there to look
the deeds I've done therein

Though I'd known it all before
in a shadow put away
now there upon the slate my score
was the tally I saw that day

This is splendid, Richard! A very good lesson in this poem. I enjoyed it immensely:)
