I Read a Poem

I read a poem

I read a poem with closed mind,
Words of wisdom I hoped to find,
But all I got was much regret,
It failed to stir my intellect.

I read a poem like the scholars do,
Every word, through and through,
Deeper meaning, somewhere inside,
But once again I was denied.

I read a poem, Shakespearian style,
Dramatic pauses ……. once in a while,
I made the poem really flow,
The inner meaning did not show.

I read a poem of such delight,
Where every word shone oh so bright,
Full of joy and rhythmic beat,
Cos an inner meaning I did not seek.

Now back to your poem, I like the way you made your point, should put some noses out of joint. Simple words all the time, and twas yours that inspired mine. Thanks, Robert enjoyed the read. Mick

Love this Robert, I read many poems on here but if they don't grab my attention from the first line and are too intellectual only the writer understands them or they have swallowed a dictionary to try and impress with long words ... i give up:-) I'm with you i love 'simple rhyme'which is easy to understand and there is no hidden meaning in it:-) hugs jan xx
