I read a poem

I read a poem with closed mind,
Words of wisdom I hoped to find,
But all I got was much regret,
It failed to stir my intellect.

I read a poem like the scholars do,
Every word, through and through,
Deeper meaning, somewhere inside,
But once again I was denied.

I read a poem, Shakespearian style,
Dramatic pauses ……. once in a while,
I made the poem really flow,
The inner meaning did not show.

I read a poem of such delight,
Where every word shone oh so bright,
Full of joy and rhythmic beat,
Cos an inner meaning I did not seek.

Jan Allison April 18, 2018 at 5:03 PM Love this Robert, I read many poems on here but if they don't grab my attention from the first line and are too intellectual only the writer understands them or they have swallowed a dictionary to try and impress with long words ... i give up:-) I'm with you i love 'simple rhyme'which is easy to understand and there is no hidden meaning in it:-) hugs jan xx
