I Raised My Voice

I raised my voice… My voice to say what I believe; To show others what I perceive, But you tormented me in grieve. I raised my voice… My voice to show I matter; To prove I wasn’t least nor latter, But you discarded it as idle chatter. I raised my voice… My voice to fight against wrong; To snub injustice that ruled so long, But you drowned the words in that song. I raised my voice… My voice to speak for my kind; To share what I also had in mind, But you banished all that I inclined. I raised my voice… My voice to display my plight; To vent my freedom of speech right, But you violently took away my sight. I raised my voice… My voice to convey that I too can; To ascertain that I too was still human, But you still neglect me for being me – a woman.
