I Pushed God Away

Long ago when life began
I didn’t know the way
I was lost but thought I knew
And that’s what I would say
Stubborn and rebellious
I followed with the crowd
I argued with the best of them
Sometimes my wrong was loud
Religion, just a bunch of junk
And God a fantasy for sure
Agnostic steeped in science
My old manner was impure
I didn’t care and I kept running
I kept God out of my day
But He kept coming patiently
Always showing me the way
Evolution, that’s what I believed
Taught surely in the school
We all came from lower forms
Don’t you be a fool!
But we reasoned, if evolving
Where would the process end?
Possibilities are endless
And on progress we depend
So God must be a certainty
In an infinity of years
Yet still I went along my way
With no tears or hidden fears
But I knew now it was possible
That God was really there
But I’d never seen or heard
And I really didn’t care
But one day two ladies stopped me
And showed me Words to make me think
The had me read the Word of God
And Holy Spirit let me drink
Have you thought about eternal life?
And if it’s really true
Would you like to find out?
If that’s the way for you
Say this little prayer with us
Just give God a chance
Right then I gave my heart to God
And felt like I would dance
I changed inside and then I knew
My fight was finally done
I had found that God was real
And I had met God’s holy Son
