I Live Through This Piano

I sit here at my piano
hands don’t know where to start

It seems I can’t escape
the pains of this broken heart

I try so hard to remember
why everything went so wrong

I can’t seem to find the music
My soul can’t find a song. (Stop and hold)

I use to be so happy
as my fingers danced upon these keys

Then one day she came into my life
and snuffed out those memories (building anger)

Yeah she came along and broke my heart
And she threw it on the floor

The best day of my life
Was the day she walked out the door (play!)

My life is so much better now
I’m beginning to live again

I’m so much better without her
And this joy that lives within (Enjoy!)

my friends are coming around again
I’m so happy to be free

Cause I’m here to tell you my friends
The music still lives in me

So now if you’ll excuse me
I ask you to raise your glass

Let’s celebrate this time together
As I kick this piano’s ass. (Shred)

wonderful! i love the creative way you've combined poetry and music in this poem, darrell (or at least made it front and center)...

Hahaha. Thank you ! It was a fun little write in an attempt to get my friend back to having fun and playing his piano. He is a concert quality pianist but has been taking time away from that love.
