I Know What Makes Them March

I Know What Makes Them March
By David J Walker

First thing
The new young boys in uniform
Learn to sing
In voices strong
They learn to sing the songs
That makes them swing
Swing their arms and raise
Their legs
And march to the beat
Made by boots
Ingrained the rhythm in their heads
Side by side
In unison
As if part of a living
OD Green thing
And
For the first time
They are not alone
Marching and singing the song
Of a soldier
No longer
A hapless boy in his fathers home
Alone in his future
Marching into a destiny
With brothers who
Sing the same song
